Our Big Family Vacation…Epcot, Day 1

another week has flown by & I’m back to add more vacation pics ;)! I decided to split this post into 2 since Epcot was our favorite Disney park & there are close to 200 pics to sift through and since i really like posting pics, it’s better for my editing sanity if I break it up…so, today is Epcot day 1, Monday (or Tuesday) will be Epcot day 2 :).

During all my pre-vacation planning I found out that Epcot offers SCUBA divers the chance to dive their aquarium (for a fee, of course) called DiveQuest. And since the hubby & son are certified divers, I signed them up so that even though we weren’t doing a beach/island vacation, they would still have the chance to get a dive in this year. So with that, we had to schedule our day a little differently since they would be gone for a few hours (the dive includes a behind the scenes tour as well) so we were pretty much skipping the World Showcase area and just concentrating on the front part with the rides. But skipping World Showcase meant skipping “drinking around the world” and that was just unacceptable for us grown-ups, and so we decided to return to Epcot the next day, which had been a built in rest day.

So, day 1…rides & the boys dive. We all really enjoyed Epcot and will definitely make a return trip there whenever we decide to go back :). With our fast passes, we rode Mission Space, Spaceship Earth, & Soarin’ as a family…Jordan & I rode the Nemo ride & saw Turtle Talk with Crush while the boys were doing their diving thing. {A quick note about the DiveQuest thing, the hubby & son seemed to enjoy it and while we did get the chance to see them get into the tank & swim around for a bit, Jordan was impatient to get to Japan for the gift store & we missed when the divers swam up to the windows to wave to their families.} So, She & I “traveled” a bit around the World Showcase while we were killing time, but we didn’t get to explore much. *We are not fans of the new fast pass system. The way they have changed it meant that while we could get a pass for Soarin’, we could not get one for Test Track in the same day because you can only pick one for your initial 3 and by the time you can get a 4th, all the ones for Test Track are gone.*

I can’t believe it’s been a month since we were in Orlando…we really did enjoy our time down there, even with all the walking & heat & occasional tantrums ;).

Our Big Summer Vacation…lots of pictures, just a few words

OK, so I’ve figured that if I update every Friday for the next few weeks, I’ll be able share the bulk of the pics from our vacation and I’ll hopefully get back into the habit of weekly blog updates (thus not going months before I remember to blog). *that’s my hope anyway ;).*

So, our second Disney day was to Hollywood Studios…Stephen’s favorite! This trip we were able to ride all the rides we wanted (the kiddos rode Star Tours 4 times! and Stephen was the Rebel Spy the first time we rode together), see all the shows we wanted, and take a ton of pictures! We all enjoyed most of the day…poor hubby ended up getting back pains near the end of the day though, but he was a trooper & wouldn’t let us leave since the kids were enjoying themselves so much. *we figured out the pains were a combination of lack of proper back support when sitting, all the walking we had been doing (10+ hours the day before), and the bed at the rental where we were staying. he took some aspirin when we got back to the condo & sat in some better chairs & slept more towards the middle of the bed…that seemed to help & he was able to get through the rest of the week without much discomfort or pain.*

Other than hubby’s back pains, we all made it through and are happy to make a return trip there when/if we make a return trip to Orlando.

Our Big Summer Vacation…a 5 part, mostly pic heavy, recap

So, the kiddos have been back to school for a week now and therefore, i am finally catching up on vacation pic editing & blog updating :).

This past summer, our vacation was down to Orlando for some amusement park fun at both Disney and Universal. We learned lots of lessons along the way…never again returning to Magic Kingdom being one of the biggest ones! *it’s just too crowded for our liking & more for little/younger kids…now that our kids are older, we’re not so inclined to return.*

Epcot was a big favorite…we could spend an entire day in the World Showcase (drinking in every country for us grown-ups!), Stephen still likes Hollywood Studios, Jordan missed out on Animal Kingdom (that’ll be back on our list for next time), and even 2 days at Universal was not enough for us to do all the things we wanted to do there.

And even though we had originally said “never again”, we will return to Universal & the non-Magic Kingdom Disney parks…we’ll just be better prepared & split it up in a better way.

So, with that being said…here are a ton of pics from Magic Kingdom, our first (and longest) day. *Magic Kingdom always is the longest day for us.*

The day started with rain, but luckily it ended around lunchtime :).

Ren Fest 2014

*just a quick little post with lots of pictures!*

We made our annual trip up to Concord, NC for the Renaissance Festival, this past weekend. It’s the third year in a row, so it’s definitely becoming an annual thing. The past couple years, we went the weekend that it opened, but have since decided that it’s still a bit too hot & summer like that first weekend in October. So, we chose to wait til a bit later into the month to go and we were very pleased with the weather and will more than likely make this the traditional time to go…it was still warm while the sun was overhead, cool and comfortable in the shade.

We also took Stephen’s friend Nick with us, so he could experience all the “craziness” that we talk about after one of those trips ;).

*Luke wore his kilt & added a sash while we were there. Jordan participated in a stage show, climbed a tower, & had her picture taken with the super popular fairy, Twig. Stephen added a hat to his Steampunk outfit and Nick got himself Steampunk themed goggles. We watched Gypsy Geoff-Fire Circus show (the one Jordan helped in), the Barely Balanced show and the joust. Drank a lot (beer for the grown-ups, sodas for the kids), ate a lot, and walked a ton!*

We all had a great time and can’t wait til next year!

Sewing round-up…

Since I’ve been quite neglectful of my blog lately, here’s a lovely picture roundup of all the sewing I’ve been doing over the last few weeks!

Yes, I’m being lazy & only posting pics. I know, but writing is just not “in me” these days. I’d like to say that I’ll try harder, but odds are I won’t. Much as I thought I wanted to be a blogger, I realize that writing isn’t always my strongest trait. I’m much better at sewing & taking pictures…so I’ll be sticking with that…at least for a little bit :).

PS…the 2 selfies at the bottom are before & after hair coloring pics…went from dark brown to what my hubby refers to as “hooker red”. it’s not quite the red i was going for, but i guess it’s better than “clown red” :).

PPS…all the pics were taken with my ipad & most are the instagram version.

Quick update while I workout…why not?!

This will be interesting…I’m finally updating here while I workout…multitasking at its finest πŸ™‚

So, I’m back on a workout/exercise schedule I can live with…riding our exercise bike for 11-12 miles 5-6 days a week. 2 weeks in & by now, honestly, I would have given up, but I have a goal of losing 10 pounds before we head back to St. Croix in June so there’s no giving up this time.

We had Jordan’s first ever slumber party this past Friday and everything went off without much of a hitch. The girls all seemed to have a great time & Jordan told me it was the best time she’d ever had! (She’s been saying that a lot lately, but I’ll still take it!)

I added their names in vinyl…they picked out the color they

So far it’s already been a busy month…my old sewing machine broke so I had to get a new one & my husband was sweet enough to let me get the really nice one that I’ve wanted for the last couple years. We’re calling it my early anniversary/Mother’s Day/birthday present and I am loving it!

my new Singer machine!

And because the new machine was going to be bigger than the old one (it has a removable extension table), I took that opportunity to build myself a new sewing table.

work in progress…one leg painted, one more to go

the finished table…ready to be used

I still have some doll furniture to finish for Jordan, I’m working on lots more clothes for my spring & summer wardrobe, and I’m a pattern tester for the first time (so excited about that & I’ll post more about it when I can). So I’m busy, busy, busy and naturally things get neglected…like blogging or cleaning or laundry or all of those things. But, I’m slowly catching up with all those things & will eventually find a groove that works for me!

I’ll work on posting pics of all the clothes I’ve made so far…but for now I must get to all that neglected laundry before we’re all left naked!

snowed in…sort of

here in the coastal south, we rarely get snowed/iced in…we’re just not used to it. and so when it does happen, we (mainly I) tend to take lots of pictures of even the smallest amounts of the fluffy white stuff.

today there’s still ice on the houses, cars, trees, ground, etc., but everything will be back to normal (kids in school, temps back in the 50’s) tomorrow & in a few months time, i’m sure we’ll be wishing for the cold to come back once again. we (again, mainly I) curse & complain about the cold when it’s here, but miss it like crazy when the heat & humidity of spring/summer/fall rolls around.

so while the kiddos enjoy their second day of no school, i’m hoping to get some sewing and crafting done since yesterday was spent doing a whole lot of nothin’!

everybody’s doing it, guess i will too…

2013 is hours away from being over so here’s my year-end review…mostly in picture form since i’ve got so many things still to do before the day is over.

thanks so much for all the following, page views, sharing, liking, etc…it really does mean a lot to me!

my goals (i don’t like the word “resolutions”)Β  for 2014Β  are fairly straight-forward, small, & pretty easy for me to stick to (makes it easier on my lazy self if i don’t plan too much).

~blogging goal for 2014 is to write at least 2 posts a month…it’s a goal i’m fairly certain that i can successfully stick to, but of course time will tell.

~crafting/sewing goals are a bit more involved…building more things with wood, sewing with knits more, finally overcoming my “fear” of sewing with zippers, working with my silhouette machine more, & just generally spending as much time as i possibly can making myself into a better, more experienced crafter & sewist.

so happy new year to all! hope 2014 brings you all the things you hope it will!

October re-cap…better late than never

ok,Β  i’m terribly behind on updating my blog…so i’m gonna post a ton of pics & a quick little update to remedy at least a little of that.

october is the start of the crazy holiday busyness for me…it makes me a little crazy, but in a good way πŸ˜‰

so, last month i decorated the house for halloween, made a couple shirts for jordan, spent a few hours cutting & knotting tulle for my halloween costume, sorted fabrics & patterns for my upcoming fall/winter sewing, made treat bags for jordan’s class party & halloween chex mix for stephen’s, made a fleece yoda hat for a friend’s son, cooked a ton & baked my first batch of pumpkin muffins, and sewed a few more tops for myself.

november will be much of the same…sewing (finally making a wiksten tova or 2 & trying leggings for jordan & maybe myself), crafting, cooking, baking, and whatever else i can manage to fit into my days!

and so, with all that quickly being said, i’m off to get busy before my “to-do” list completely overwhelms me!

enjoy the pics and thanks for stopping by :)!

my creative space

because i love to share pictures now that i have my nice, new, fancy camera.

because i love seeing the spaces where others create, craft, sew, work, etc.

and because i think there should be a “not-as-clean-and-organized” view of where my creativity takes place.

i am sharing pics of where i craft, sew, create, work, waste time, avoid cleaning, etc.

full disclosure…i am a messy, not very organized person & i make no excuses for being that way…i seem to live by the motto “creativity is messy & i am very creative”

but i will also say that i am in the middle of several sewing projects & my room always tends to be messiest when that’s the case πŸ˜‰

and as a final note, i must say that i am so happy to have a room that i can call my own; where i can create, craft, sew, escape from my children, etc. after 4 years in a rental house where i worked in a small corner of the master bedroom, having this room has been wonderful!
